Nisab threshold
Most scholars recommend using the silver nisab (lower threshold) so more people can give.
Below Nisab
Your wealth is below the Nisab threshold. No Zakat is obligatory, but voluntary Sadaqah is always rewarded.
Disclaimer: This calculator provides an estimate based on Hanafi fiqh. Nisab values are approximate and updated periodically. For specific questions about your Zakat obligations, consult a qualified Islamic scholar or your local imam. Gold/silver prices are approximate for March 2026.
Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. It is an obligatory charity of 2.5% on wealth above the Nisab threshold, paid annually. It purifies your wealth and helps those in need.
Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must have before Zakat becomes obligatory. It is measured in gold (87.48 grams, approximately £5,992) or silver (612.36 grams, approximately £441). Most scholars recommend using the silver nisab so more people are eligible to give.
Zakat is calculated on your wealth on your Zakat anniversary — one lunar year (hawl) from when your wealth first exceeded the Nisab. Many Muslims choose to pay during Ramadan for increased reward.
If you're a mosque committee or charity collecting Zakat from your community, PledgeNow can help. Zakat is tracked separately from Sadaqah and Lillah. Gift Aid declarations are captured automatically. And it's completely free.
